Toddler Storytime-Food and Healthy Eating

Today was all about food and healthy eating! We had lots of fun singing and playing with different activities today all together! Here was the plan for the morning together:

1.) Hello Song with Scarves and Instruments

2.) Book One: Yummy, Yucky

3.) Song-I am Hungry

4.) Book and ABC Flannel: Eating the Alphabet

5.) Song-1,2,3,4 _________’s at the Kitchen Door

6.) Book and Flannel: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

7.) Song-Chop, Chop, Choppity, Chop

8.) Book-To Market, To Market

9.) Song and Flannel: The Soup is Boiling Up

10.) Book and Flannel: Food Fight

3.)

I handed out maracas to the kids and they shook them through the whole song and sang after me for every verse.  Giving them instruments was perfect because it kept them focused on the song!

4.)

As we read through this book the kids helped me by bringing up the letters as they came up in the story! Then at the very end we sang our ABC’s together 🙂

5.)

This was a great song to do with this group because I have never really done a personalized song before with the kids names in it so they were super excited! It took some time but everyone was engaged the whole time!

6.)

A favorite story of mine! The kids loved being apart of the story by bringing up the different foods to the board as the hungry caterpillar ate them in the story!

7.)

I changed up this rhyme a bit from Jbrary and did Chop, Chop, Chippity, Chop and had the kids pick what we were chopping up before we sang together.  Each child had one hand as their cutting board and their other hand as the chopper.  By having the kids pick what we were chopping up they were excited to be doing the hand movements!

9.)

This was a new one to me and I LOVED it and that transferred to the group ! The excitement was there and they may all be future chefs in the future!  I had laminated food pieces that each child received and they would bring them up to the pot as we sang. All of the kids had imaginary pots as well that they were stirring as we sang.

The Soup is Boiling Up (from Miss Sarah’s)
..to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell
The soup is boiling up, (flutter your fingers up above the pot)
The soup is boiling up.
Stir slow, around we go, (pretend to stir)
The soup is boiling up.
Who has the broth?? Bring it up to the pot!
First we cook the broth,
First we cook the broth.
Stir slow, around we go,
First we cook the broth.
Who has the carrots??? Bring them up to the pot!
Now we add some carrots,
Now we add some carrots.
Stir slow, around we go,
Now we add some carrots.
Who has the broccoli?? Bring them up to the pot!
Now we add some broccoli
Now we add some broccoli
Stir slow, around we go,
Now we add some broccoli
Who has the tomato?? Bring them up to the pot!
Now we add some tomato
Now we add some tomato
Stir slow, around we go,
Now we add some tomato
The soup is ready now,
The soup is ready now.
Stir slow, around we go,
The soup is ready now.

YUMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!! (pretend to slurp the soup)

The kids all got food pieces directly from the book that they brought up to the board when their character was shown in the story!
