Today’s program was all about the  planets! Here is what our plan was for the morning:

Flannel-Five Little Rockets with a Rhyme


Five Little Rockets zooming  off in space.  The 1st rocket said, ‘Let’s have a race’.  The 2nd rocket said, ‘Line up in a row’.  The 3rd rocket said, ‘Ready, set, go’.  The 4th rocket said, ‘Beep, Beep, Beep.’.  The 5th rocket said, ‘You can’t catch me’.  Then roar went their engines and blink went their lights and five little rockets zoomed out of sight.  


Song-I’m a Little Rocket (tune of I’m a little teapot)

I’m a little rocket.  Tall and thin.  Here is my nose cone, here are my fins.  When I get all fired up launch begins.  Watch me rise and see me spin.


Book/Flannel: There Was an Old Martian


I absolutely love this flannel and book partnership.  The kids love it too.  Each child got an object (have a few sets if you have a lot of kids so they all get an object), then as I read the book they bring up their object as it comes up in the story and feed the martian.  So by the end the martian’s tummy is completely full.  This was a HUGE hit 🙂

Song/Flannel: I’m Going Out in Space (tune of Farmer in the Dell)

I’m going out in space, I’m going out in space.  I think I’ll see a planet there.  I’m going out in space.


Loved this! The kids each got a planet and as we sang through this song they brought one up at a time to put around the sun.  We went over all of the planet names and their order.  The kids really like this one.  I think they got the concept of all the planets circling the sun, which is what I was going for 🙂




Goodbye song with Lambchop.  Same as hello but interchange with goodbye.
