Expecto Patronum

When it is not the summer time at our library our teen book circulation is always much lower and I have been trying to come up with ideas of how to get the teens that we do have in the library to pay more attention to the teen space and hopefully then increase circulation.

So last month was the first month that I started to do teen space themes and started with Doctor Who.  It was a huge hit.  I decorate the room and then have a table that has FREE STUFF.  Who can say no to FREE STUFF??! I had bookmarks, a craft activity they could do themselves, and a place for them to vote for next month’s theme.  By having them vote for the next month theme they feel more involved in what is picked.

There was a ton of different kinds of votes that were casted including a lot of funny ones that my teens put in just for laughs but the most votes were for magic and Harry Potter. So I went to work and created a teen space dedicated to Harry Potter while putting a twist on it that shows how much the library has to offer these teens that they don’t even realize!!

After six months I will take a look at how circulation is doing and see if decorating the room and getting the teens to come into the teen space is helping with circulation.  Even if it is not helping I have seen a huge increase in the amount of teens that come into this small section already so that is a huge plus!
